If Mark Hughes is sacked as Stoke manager then could Sheffield United’s Chris Wilder or former West Brom boss Tony Pulis be in the running?

Mark Hughes is now the odds-on favourite with Skybet to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked after Stoke City lost 1-0 to Burnley in their last outing.

If the Welshman is dismissed then here are three bosses that the Potteries could consider to replace him at the Bet365 Stadium.

Linked with the vacant position at Scotland, the current Northern Ireland chief has admitted that he is in discussion with his current employers about a new contract – as outlined by the Daily Record.

This is little surprise when O’Neill took the Northern Irish to their first international tournament since 1986 by qualifying for Euro 2016 and the the playoffs for the 2018 World Cup.

Wilder has been on a brilliant run over the past three seasons, winning back-to-back promotion from League Two and then League One with Northampton Town and current club Sheffield United respectively.

The Blades have started their first year back in Championship strongly as well and despite a recent dip in form, still remain sixth in the second tier of English football.

If appointed it would be Pulis’ third spell at Stoke having previously taken them into the top flight in 2008 and then reaching the FA Cup final in 2011.

Recently sacked by West Bromwich Albion, the 59-year-old is known to instill defensive solidity – something the Staffordshire side might need having conceded the most goals in the division in 2017/18 – although his reappointment might not be that popular among the fans.
