An ex-Aston Villa defender has made some interesting suggestions as to who should become the new manager at the club.

There is no question that these are turbulent times for Aston Villa Football Club. No manager, no direction and 19th in the league table after 11 games.
The sacking of Roberto Di Matteo opens the door for a new man to step in and take charge, with the list of potential candidates dividing opinion among fans. As reported by Birmingham Mail, former Villa defender Ugo Ehiogu believes that hiring a former player could be the solution.
The last handful of managers at Villa Park have failed to make an impact, and when speaking to BBC WM Ehiogu said he believes the club needs to try something different.
“Ex players have been interested in the job, why not? If you get the balance right in a management team, it can bear fruit.” he said.

“What they have tried in the past hasn’t worked, why not try something different?
“Why not someone who has had success at Aston Villa in earlier years?”
There have been examples in the recent past that serve as both pros and cons to this idea, with Alan Shearer’s short tenure at Newcastle United perhaps being the best sign of a beloved player failing in the managerial role.
Whichever way Villa go they will need to decide soon, with their first game after the international break being an important one as they host Midlands rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.
