Former USA boss comments on the progress of Celtic ace Timothy Weah

Timothy Weah has scored two Scottish Premiership goals since joining Celtic on loan from Ligue 1 champions PSG.

Celtic striker Timothy Weah has been tipped for the top by his former United States coach Dave Sarachan as the PSG loanee prepares for his first Old Firm derby on Sunday, as reported by the Scottish Sun.

The 19-year-old forward has made a big impression at Celtic after joining from the Ligue 1 champions in the January transfer window, scoring three goals so far while catching the eye with his ability to change a game from the bench.

Weah will be hoping to be given a chance as the Scottish Premiership leaders host bitter rivals Rangers at Parkhead this weekend and Sarachan believes the teenager has the skill and personality to make the difference.

“I think he understands what it means to play at the next level when it comes to the national team and it seems to have translated with his club,” said Sarachan, who was interim coach of the USA between 2017 and 2018.

“This weekend will be a good example. He might be too young to even understand what that game really means but I think his starting points are good. He can sometimes rile up others but he’s passionate and was an instant crowd favourite.

“He’s got tools that are up to (international football) standard, speed and pace, his technical ability continues to improve and tactically the other area of the learning curve has shown a good trajectory.

“He’s in a real pressure cooker with the expectations and I think he has embraced the moment he’s had there. He hasn’t shied away and I think he can push on to even bigger and better things.”

Weah is following the footsteps of Odsonne Edouard by joining Celtic on loan from Paris Saint-German but, while the latter sealed a permanent move last summer for a club record £9 million, it seems that the former still has a future in the French capital.

Though even if his time at Celtic is coming to an end already, Weah can scribe his name into folklore by finding the back of the net on his Old Firm debut as The Hoops look to go 13 points clear at the top of the table.
