The youngster left Tottenham Hotspur for a surprise spell at NK Olimpija.
For a while, Nathan Oduwa was regarded as the next big thing in Tottenham Hotspur’s academy, and when Sky Sports reported that he was refusing to sign a new contract back in May 2016, some Spurs supporters were alarmed at the prospect of watching him leave for nothing.
The report claimed Oduwa was hoping to impress potential suitors with Nigeria at the upcoming Olympics – a decision that proved damaging when he was not even selected for that competition – but when he did finally leave White Hart Lane, it was to the somewhat less glamorous surroundings of Slovenian side NK Olimpija.
It is fair to say that in the proceeding months, things have not gone according to plan for the 21-year-old, who has been in and out of the team and not exactly shown the form that once had him tipped as a future Tottenham star.
So far this season, the former Spurs man has managed just two starts in 11 matches, coming off the bench on four occasions and being omitted from the match day squad five times.
If Oduwa expected his move to Olimpija to kick-start his career and help him earn a bigger move elsewhere, it does not appear to be working.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino was quick to promote the likes of Josh Onomah and Harry Winks, so it seems he was right to overlook Oduwa all along.
