Red Devils star Michael Carrick sat down for an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, and discussed his transfer from Spurs to United in 2006, claiming that Daniel Levy got more money for him than he was worth at the time.

The 35-year-old completed his switch to Old Trafford for a fee believed to be in the region of £18.6 million – quite a substantial amount at the time.

He has gone on to make 452 appearances for United, and has firmly established himself as one of the Premier League’s finest midfield players.

And the 34-capped England international spoke exclusively to Sky Sports about his move from London to Manchester over a decade ago, highlighting the intense nature of the training sessions under Sir Alex Ferguson’s regime as something that got his attention immediately:

“It dragged through the summer and I ended up going back to train with Tottenham for a couple of weeks. Daniel Levy to be fair to him got top dollar for me. It was way more than they should have paid really. The difference I found was it was relentless. Every day was relentless and the training sessions were generally harder than the matches.”

The experienced midfielder’s contract with United expires in the summer, and there will surely be a lengthy queue of potential suitors for his signature, should Jose Mourinho decide against offering him a new deal.

It has to be said that Carrick still has a lot to offer at the highest level, and would represent a fantastic option for any Premier League club looking to add an experienced winner to their squad this summer.
