Former Tottenham Hotspur star Gylfi Sigurdsson has had a remarkable campaign at Swansea City.
Swansea City playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson has become one of only three Premier League players to reach double figures in assists this season.
The Icelandic international struggled to impress while at Tottenham Hotspur and ultimately traded White Hart Lane for the Liberty Stadium on a permanent deal last summer.
Sigurdsson had previously impressed on a loan spell in South Wales, but his form this season has far eclipsed anything he previously achieved as a Premier League player.
| Position | Team | Assists | Key Passes | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cesc Fàbregas | MF | Chelsea | 17 | 89 | 31 | 2,677 |
| Ángel Di María | MF | Man Utd | 10 | 50 | 25 | 1,592 |
| Gylfi Sigurdsson | MF | Swansea | 10 | 68 | 29 | 2,434 |
| Erik Lamela | MF | Tottenham | 6 | 47 | 29 | 1,953 |
As per the table provided by Opta Stats, the 25-year-old has been one of the most creative players in the Premier League this season and one of only three to hit double figures in assists.
Chelsea ace Cesc Fabregas leads the way on 17, while Manchester United superstar Angel di Maria and Swansea’s Sigurdsson both have 10 each – four more than Spurs’ highest Erik Lamela.
Moreover, the former Reading favourite has totalled 68 chances created (key passes) in 29 top-flight appearances – over 20 more than Lamela and 18 more than his Argentine compatriot Di Maria.
Sigurdsson’s form this season further raises questions over Spurs’ decision to sell him, especially considering he hadn’t had a fair crack of the whip under boss Mauricio Pochettino.
