Writing his column for the Evening Standard, former Tottenham man and BBC pundit Danny Murphy has claimed that his former side lack the genuine title firepower present at Premier League rivals including Arsenal and Liverpool.

Spurs have begun their 2016/17 campaign in impressive fashion, currently sitting just one point off of top spot in the league, and remain the only unbeaten side left in England’s top-flight.

Murphy wrote a column for the Evening Standard, and highlighted how Mauricio Pochettino’s men lack the necessary firepower required in order to mount a sustained title challenge:

“I have said before that I don’t think Tottenham have enough goals in the team to make a serious challenge for the Premier League title and I have seen nothing to change my mind. Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela are very good players but they are a level below the men who do similar jobs for Spurs’ rivals. I’m thinking about Philippe Coutinho, Kevin De Bruyne, Mesut Ozil and Eden Hazard.”

Tottenham’s record of 13 goals in nine Premier League outings is certainly a worrying statistic, especially when every team love them in the table have scored at least 19 goals thus far.

It must be considered, however, that they have been without their number one striker Harry Kane since September 18th due to injury, and when he returns, surely they will improve in the goal scoring department.

Spurs face Leicester City tomorrow in the Premier League before a visit from Bayer Leverkusen in their vitally important Champions League knock-out game.

Then comes a crucial trip to the Emirates to take on bitter rivals Arsenal.

It will be interesting to see how Tottenham manage to navigate the tricky fixtures that await them over the coming weeks, and if they can find a way to score enough goals during the continued absence of Kane.
