Paulinho has been discussing his Tottenham Hotspur exit.
The Brazilian midfielder is now playing for Barcelona, after quitting Tottenham in 2015 to sign with Chinese club Guangzhao Evergrande.
Paulinho played under three different managers at Spurs, and maintains quitting the club was best for his career. Now playing for Barcelona, it is hard to argue otherwise.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is famous for his tough negotiations and pulled off a coup with the high fee he recouped for Paulinho, and the Brazilian had kind words to say about him.
He said: “The coach wasn’t trusting in me so there’s no reason to stay. It was April, May 2015, a month left. I’d spoken to the president [chairman Daniel Levy] and asked him if he could help.
“He was a buenísimo person and he said: ‘Let’s wait and see if you have anything.’”
“What he had was China. And that was pretty much that. There were two more offers in Europe but they were loans and I didn’t want that.”
Paulinho has gone onto become a key figure in Barcelona’s team, which currently sits top of La Liga.
It was a turnaround few saw coming, especially Tottenham fans who had watched him week in and week out in the Premier League.
His spell at the club was a disappointment, but he has more than made up for it now, despite his unpredictable route back to the top.
