Amid the chaos at Blackpool, former Wolves, Portsmouth and Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara may just have saved his career.
There are many ways to describe Blackpool’s 2014/15 season. Farce, relegation, doomed-from-the-start, chaotic.
For midfielder Jamie O’Hara one word can sum it up: Redemption.
The former Spurs trainee was signed on a free transfer after being released by Wolves at the start of the season.
Wolves had paid £5 million to sign him back in 2012, only for him to become a pariah at the club as they dropped down from the Premier League into League One.
When they were promoted back to the Championship in 2013/14 he played only two games, and was regarded by fans as one of their worst signings in years, along with Roger Johnson.
Blackpool were the only team in the Championship willing to take a chance on him, and while their relegation came as little surprise, from a personal point of view the move was a real success for O’Hara.
| Team | Chances Created | Assists | Goals | Passing Accuracy | Appearances | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jamie O’Hara | Blackpool | 72 | 8 | 2 | 73% | 27 |
He created 72 goalscoring chances, putting him in the top 20 players in the Championship in terms of creativity, leading to eight assists.
For O’Hara, purely to play 27 games was positive progress compared to the previous season, and the 28-year-old’s career has a new lease of life, thanks to the way he performed.
His future is unclear having only signed a deal until this June, and although Blackpool would surely be keen to try and keep him, O’Hara may well have done enough to spark interest from sides in the Championship looking for a bargain addition this summer.
