Arsenal ace Bukayo Saka needs people rallying behind him after his penalty woe for England – and he’s received support from a couple of ex-Tottenham Hotspur players.
Saka stepped up for England in their penalty shootout defeat to Italy on Sunday night, and sadly saw his match-defining spot kick saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Donnarumma’s save handed Italy the win after a 1-1 draw in 120 minutes, with Luke Shaw’s early opener cancelled out by an equaliser from Leonardo Bonucci.
Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho had already failed from the penalty spot before Saka’s crucial effort, and England’s long wait for silverware continues.
It took incredible guts and courage for Saka to step up for such a key penalty, but he has been receiving ridiculous criticism and abuse on social media.
Arsenal fans and teammates are rallying behind Saka, but a couple of former Tottenham men have joined in too.
Ramon Vega and Wayne Routledge both turned out for Tottenham but understandably put any lingering North London allegiances aside to support Saka.
Vega urged Saka, Rashford and Sancho to not be disappointed because they are all ‘brilliant’ players, whilst Routledge offered ‘big respect’ to the trio, telling them to ‘stand proud’ after having the bravery to take a penalty last night.
