Preece played with Eriksen at Odense in Denmark.

Former Aberdeen goalkeeper David Preece has been talking about his encounters with a 16-year-old Christian Eriksen this week.

The 40-year-old joined Odense in Denmark back in 2008, where the Dane was still a young talent, and the teenager clearly made a big impression on the goalkeeper during his time in Danish football – even if it was brief.

He spoke of the challenge of facing him in an article for the Sunderland Echo – where he clearly made how highly he rated the now 24-year-old apparent:

“The first time I saw Christian Eriksen play he’d been pulled over to make up the numbers and join in a session with the players who had been on the bench that Sunday.

“I thought he was going to get eaten alive up against the older players. The sympathy soon drained away when the keeper opposite me rolled the ball to Christian and he curled the ball past me, first time, into the top corner.

“From the sideline I could hear laughing. ‘Come on, David. He’s only a baby.’ Yep, and he was urinating all over me.”

Eriksen of course went on to be a hit at Ajax, who he joined not long after Preece headed to the Danish club, and is now one of the stars of the Tottenham first-team.

This season has been an interesting one for the Danish star.

He has struggled for his best form on a consistent basis, which has seen some fans calling for him to be benched.

However, he has recently found his best form yet again and Tottenham fans know that the Dane keeping his consistency will be key to Tottenham challenging for any silverware this season.
