Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara spoke to TalkSport about Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser.
The Cherries attacker will be out of contract at the end of this month with North London rivals Arsenal (Daily Mail) and Tottenham (The Mirror) reportedly interested in signing him.
The Times now claim that Fraser has rejected a short-term extension until the end of this season with Bournemouth which has irked a number of people in the football world.
Ray Parlour slammed the Scotsman’s decision earlier today (read more here) and O’Hara seems to agree with the former Arsenal midfielder.
He said: “He’s a good player, but would he be a Premiership player without Eddie Howe and without Bournemouth? They took him in League One.
“Because of Eddie Howe they’ve been able to get in the Premier League because he’s such a fantastic manager. I think he’s let his team and his manager down.”
“It shows the lack of loyalty. It’s not like they (Bournemouth) are mid-table and they’re going to coast through and see the season out. They are in a massive dogfight and they need their best players and he has been one of their best players.”
Bournemouth, Eddie Howe and Cherries fans will be disappointed with the way Fraser has gone about his contract situation.
However, it does make sense for Fraser to to do what he has done. The Scotsman is hoping for a big move this summer and a potential injury will ruin that for him.
If he agrees to play and if he go down with a long-term problem, his summer move will be off and it might even mean that he will be without a job until he becomes fully fit again.
Agreeing an extension would be the right thing to do after everything Bournemouth have done for him. However, it is slightly unfair to criticise his loyalty when he is just trying to protect his future.
