Tottenham Hotspur are now considered to be one of the best teams in the Premier League.
Palacios in action for Stoke City
Former Spurs star Wilson Palacios sat down for an exclusive interview with the club’s official website, and raved about the partnership of Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele in the heart of Tottenham’s midfield.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have been remarkably solid defensively all season, and a major contributing factor behind that is the protection for the back four provided by the Kenyan and the Belgian.
And Palacios, who spent nearly three years at White Hart Lane, explained how the midfield pair are so vital to the way in which Pochettino expects his team to play, highlighting their understanding of their specific roles as something that is paramount to their chances of success, as quoted by TottenhamHotspur.com:
“Together they make a great team, they don’t leave much work for the defence and they defend very well in midfield themselves too. The football has changed and now it’s very important for one of them to attack and the other to defend. Dembele goes on ahead and Wanyama stays a little behind but he also goes forward a bit as well, which is something else I believe he is very good at. I do think that it’s important that one defends and the other one attacks.”

Wanyama, 25, moved to Spurs from Southampton in the summer of 2016, for a fee believed to be in the region of £11 million, and that is now beginning to look like an absolute steal.
He offers Tottenham an extra level of solidarity that they severely lacked before his arrival, and the partnership he has formed with Dembele has blossomed into one of the best midfield combinations in the Premier League.
And the duo will have to continue their fine run of form if Tottenham are to go on and win the title.
