Tottenham Hotspur defeated Manchester City in the Premier League this afternoon, ending Pep Guardiola sides previously undefeated season in the league.

An own goal from Aleksandar Kolarov and a strike from Dele Alli gave Spurs the win and it was a stunning performance which will no doubt have the Spurs fans and neutrals considering a potential title challenge this season.

Spurs were excellent throughout the game, playing with an intensity that Manchester City just could not handle.

The performance has Spurs thinking of a potential title challenge.

One man who certainly thinks that, if Tottenham continue playing this way, they can mount a serious title challenge is former Spurs manager and director of football David Pleat.

He was speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live about Spurs and had this to say:

“’If Spurs can keep this kind of football going throughout the season, it will give them a great chance of challenging for the title.

“A first class performance from Tottenham, they were good value for their win.”

Tottenham were of course serious title challengers last season, before they fell away at the end of the campaign and ended up finishing third behind Arsenal and champions Leicester City.

This performance was easily their best of the season and Tottenham fans can rightly be excited after this win.

Perhaps this year the title is in their grasp.
