Dieter Van Tornhout has backed Ianis Hagi to be a success at Rangers, as quoted in The Daily Record.
Rangers have secured the signing of Hagi, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a forward, on a permanent contract for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Record to be worth £3 million.
The Romania international spent the second half of this past season on loan from Belgian club Genk at Rangers, having joined Steven Gerrard’s side in the January transfer window.
Van Tornhout – who played for Kilmarock and is now the assistant manager of Belgian side KV Mechelen, as reported by The Daily Record – has given his take on the 21-year-old, who has been described as “a player with massive, massive potential” by ex-Rangers striker Steven Thompson on BBC Sportscene.
Van Tornhout told The Daily Record: “Can you imagine the final game of next season is an Old Firm derby at Parkhead, with Rangers and Celtic level on points at the top of the table, and Hagi scored a last-minute winner from a free-kick?
“He would become a legend forever at Rangers and why couldn’t it happen? Football provides the opportunity for every player in any team to become a hero. I believe Hagi will be a total success with Rangers.”
Succeeding at Rangers
Hagi recently said that he feels that “amazing things” will happen at Rangers next season and raved about the club’s fans, as quoted in The Scottish Sun.
The Romania international did well during his loan spell at Rangers, and the Ibrox faithful should expect him to turn on the style during the 2020-21 campaign.
