Graham Poll has suggested a retrospective ban for Tottenham playmaker Dele Alli.
Former Premier League referee Graham Poll has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Tottenham star Dele Alli should be suspended after his dive against Swansea City.
Spurs recovered from last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Chelsea to completely overwhelm Swansea City at White Hart Lane, with Mauricio Pochettino’s men simply too much for the Premeir League’s bottom club.
Harry Kane gave Spurs the lead from the penalty spot before Heung-min Son acrobatically made it 2-0, and Tottenham ran riot in the second half as Kane added his second and Spurs’ third before Christian Eriksen scored twice to give Pochettino’s side a 5-0 win.

That was the convincing win Tottenham have been looking for, and whilst it only came against a Swansea side who have won just twice so far this season, Pochettino will be hoping this is a turning point for his side after a disappointing run.
Whilst Spurs should be celebrating the win, the aftermath of the game has surrounded the awarding of Tottenham’s first half penalty, bringing something of a cloud over the victory.

Tottenham won the penalty as Dele Alli skipped past former Tottenham defender Kyle Naughton, and whilst the Swansea man dangled out a leg, Alli went over with seemingly no contact.
Referee Jon Moss appeared to be ignoring the penalty appeals at first but did eventually point to the penalty spot, and Alli has been slammed for simulation since that incident occurred.
Now, former Premier League referee Graham Poll has told the Daily Mail that Alli should have been booked for diving, and whilst Moss shouldn’t have awarded the penalty if he wasn’t sure, he believes that Alli should now be given a retrospective three-match ban for ‘cheating’.

“A relatively quiet game for referee Jon Moss but he will be very disappointed to see the Tottenham penalty incident when reviewing the game,” said Poll. “Moss looked uncertain when Deli Alli went down in the penalty area whilst going past Kyle Naughton but eventually pointed to the spot. It was clear that Alli had dragged his back leg into Naughton causing contact and should have been cautioned for diving.”
“These incidents are hard to judge at full speed but as Moss was clearly unsure he really should not have awarded a penalty. I would like to see retrospective action for these dives – it is cheating and deserving of a three-match ban,” he added.
