The Arsenal striker is a key transfer target for Everton, but Dean Saunders believes Liverpool should sign him.

Ex-Reds star Dean Saunders spoke exclusively to talkSPORT this morning, during and interview with Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast, and suggested that his former should club make a move to sign Gunners hitman Olivier Giroud this summer.

Arsenal value the 30-year-old at £30 million, according to the Mirror, and his future at the Emirates is in doubt, following £52.3 million Alexandre Lacazette’s arrival at the club, with Everton thought to be leading the race to sign him.

The Frenchman joined the north London side from Montpellier in the summer of 2012, for a fee believed to be in the region of £12 million, and has proven himself to be a major asset for Arsene Wenger’s side, scoring 98 goals in 227 appearances in all competitions.

And Saunders, who scored 25 goals in 61 appearances for Liverpool, told talkSPORT that Giroud would be a useful signing for the Reds this summer:

“I think Giroud could play for Liverpool. Liverpool’s current front three float around, they just play anywhere, but against the lesser teams who they struggle to break down, I just think sometimes you could do with a player in the box like Giroud. You need a striker that, when you get stuck, you just toss it in there and he turns it into a goal – Giroud does that. He’s a top, top player and I think he’d be a good signing for Liverpool.”

Whilst the France international would surely be a useful addition to Jürgen Klopp’s squad, it is highly doubtful that Arsenal would entertain the idea of selling him to the Merseyside outfit, especially with relations between the two clubs hardly at an amicable level, after the Gunners’ notorious failed swoop for Luis Suarez back in 2013.
