Liverpool’s Loris Karius has struggled for form and consistency since his summer move to Anfield.

Former Reds goalkeeper David James backed current Liverpool stopper Loris Karius to come good, during an exclusive interview with talkSPORT, and labelled him as a good goalkeeper who has the potential to become great.

The 23-year-old German has endured heavy criticism for his performances between the sticks for Jürgen Klopp’s side this season, after making a series of high-profile errors that eventually proved costly to Liverpool.

But James, who made 280 appearances for the Merseyside outfit during a seven-year spell with the club, believes that Karius will prove to be an astute signing by his former club, as quoted by talkSPORT:

“I like Karius – I looked at him last season before Liverpool signed him. He’s got a tremendous amount of growth in him and rather than a bad goalie who could be good, I see him as a good goalie who could be great.”

The German has been dropped for Liverpool’s last five games, with Simon Mignolet coming into the side.

The problem for goalkeepers is that they are competing for just one position, so once they go out of the side, it is very hard to force themselves back in it.

And Reds fans will be hoping that James is right about Karius, and that after his time away form first-team action, he returns a better, more consistent goalkeeper.
