The lifelong Rangers supporter left Graeme Murty’s Ibrox outfit in January.
Former Rangers youngster Mati Zata is back in football less than a month after he announced his departure from Ibrox.
Zata’s Rangers exit was confirmed on the final day of the January transfer window, allowing him to register with another club at any time.
And the 17-year-old has since agreed an 18-month contract at Dundee United, whose development squad he will link up with initially.
After the news was announced on Monday, Zata tweeted: “Delighted to sign and very excited to see what the future holds.”
The Alloa-born player, who holds dual Scottish and Zimbabwean nationality, spent more than four years on the books of Rangers – the club he supported since childhood.
And while he failed to make a first team appearance at Ibrox, he was able to gain senior experience through a loan spell at East Kilbride earlier this season.
After severing his ties with Graeme Murty’s side, Zata tweeted: “A very sad Day leaving the club that I’ve loved & supported all my life but nothing’s meant to last forever.
“Would like to thank all the players, coaches & parents that have helped me along the way and made it such a memorable experience, wishing all the boys the best of luck”.
Zata’s position – central or attacking midfield – was one in which Rangers strengthened heavily during the January transfer window, bringing Sean Goss, Greg Docherty and Jamie Murphy, who can also play out wide.
