Billy Gilmour could hardly have made a better start to life at Chelsea after completing his much-anticipated switch from Rangers.

There was no shortage of Rangers supporters lining up to try and ‘talk sense’ into 16-year-old wonderkid Billy Gilmour as he closed in on a premature exit from Ibrox earlier this summer.

However, after months of speculation, the jewel in Rangers’ academy crown was snatched away by Chelsea, beating the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Barcelona to one of the most exciting young prospects in British football, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

And while first-team opportunities will surely have been easier to come by in the comparatively small pond of Rangers, Gilmour’s eye-catching debut for Chelsea’s Under-18s suggests that he could achieve that rarest of feats – break into The Blues’ first-team.

Gilmour capped an excellent performance against London rivals Arsenal with a gem of a goal – not bad for a youngster playing against talents two years his senior.

Therefore, Chelsea fans who got a glimpse of Gilmour in action have wasted no time at all in announcing the fresh-faced teen as a star of the future.

And while Rangers supporters will no doubt be proud to see one of their own earning rave reviews at one of Europe’s biggest and most glamorous clubs, it won’t ease the pain of watching the ‘one that got away’ thriving below the border.
