Former Rangers striker Umar Sadiq is being lined up for a stunning move to Manchester City, according to a report in Spain.
The Nigerian, who had a torrid time at Rangers, has turned his career around after his loan in Glasgow was cut short six months early and is under contract until 2025 – but a bid from the Premier League champions is likely to be too hard to resist.
Sadiq, currently playing for Almeria in Spain’s second tier, would immediately be loaned to French side ESTAC Troyes after their promotion to Ligue 1 with AS reporting that City join a number of clubs keen to sign the ex-Roma kid.
Troyes are part of the wider City Football Group, consisting of Man City, New York City, Melbourne City, Yokohama Marinos, Girona, Montevideo City Torque, Club Bolivar, Sichuan Jiuniu, Mumbai City FC and Lommel SK and would spend a year in France before being look at for a place in Pep Guardiola’s side.
Rangers struggles ancient history for Umar Sadiq
Sadiq’s time a Rangers only amounted to four appearances, with no goals to show for it, but he really seems to have turned things around in the last two years.
After a spell at Partizan Belgrade saw Sadiq impress, his move to Spain with Almeria has seen him score 22 goals from 43 games in all competitions this season.
Spartak Moscow and Eintracht Frankfurt, have both reportedly made offers for Sadiq already, while Sevilla and Villarreal have been linked with him.
When the Nigerian left Rangers under a black cloud following his shocking dive at Hampden against Aberdeen, few would have predicted the striker could eventually end up at Man City.
