Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers have no chance of competing with Old Firm rivals Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title this season, claims Derek Johnstone.
Derek Johnstone has reiterated his belief in The Glasgow Evening Times that Rangers will not win the Scottish Premiership title this season.
Rangers, who won automatic promotion from the Scottish Championship at the end of the 2015-16 campaign, are currently third in the league table.
Mark Warburton’s side have picked up 20 points from 12 matches, one fewer than second-placed Aberdeen.
Celtic are the current Scottish Premiership leaders with 31 points from 11 matches. Brendan Rodgers’s side are firm favourites to win the title, and it will be a shock if the Bhoys slip up.
Former Rangers star Johnstone has stated that the Gers have no chance of challenging Old Firm rivals Celtic for the league title this season.

“Rangers are not going to challenge for the title now but they have to get as close to Celtic as they can and have a good run in the Scottish Cup,” the 63-year-old wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times.
“There has to be signs of progress in the coming months. Then we can get to the summer and the fans will expect to see the team moving forward with regards to being able to really challenge for the Premiership next year.”

Johnstone made the aforementioned comments in the wake of Rangers’ failure to win against Ross County last weekend.
The Glasgow giants played out a 1-1 draw with County away from home at the Global Energy Stadium in the Scottish Premiership.
