Former Rangers defender Kevin Muscat is named as a potential successor for the man who could be taking over at Ibrox.

Australian football is reeling from manager Ante Postecoglou’s decision to quit the role, as speculation mounts he could take up the Glasgow Rangers role.

ESPN reported earlier in the month that Postecoglou is interested in succeeding Pedro Caixinha at Ibrox.

While Postecoglou may be heading to Glasgow, a Rangers player is a candidate to replace him.

Former Rangers defender Kevin Muscat is a contender for the now vacant Australia position.

Australian newspaper the Daily Telegraph report Muscat is a credible candidate thanks to his impressive record at club side Melbourne Victory.

Muscat knows Postecoglou well, having worked under him as a coach during his spell at Melbourne.

Muscat is himself listed as an outside for the Rangers job, with odds at 50/1 with SkyBet.

Muscat was linked with the Rangers job before Pedro Caixinha landed the role earlier in 2017, with the Daily Record reporting he was flattered by interest.
