The Rangers legend appeared to express his interest in the Ibrox post, more than 30 minutes before confirmation of Caixinha’s sacking.

Former Rangers midfielder Paul Gascoigne appears to want the Ibrox manager’s job.
The post was vacated by Pedro Caixinha on Thursday, less than 24 hours after Rangers’ 1-1 draw at home to Kilmarnock – in which Gers winger Daniel Candeias missed penalty while his side were 1-0 up in second-half added time.

And Gascoigne, who spent three years at Ibrox in the mid-1990s, is seemingly ready to come to his old side’s rescue.
“@RangersFC I’m just a phonecall away…” the ex-England midfielder posted on Twitter as reports emerged of Caixinha’s sacking – more than 30 minutes before Rangers’ official confirmation.
Although presumably tongue-in-cheek from Gascoigne, the 50-year-old does have some managerial experience, following a short spell at Kettering Town 12 years ago.
And, as we’re sure many Rangers fans will agree, he couldn’t do much more damage than Caixinha.
The Portuguese coach leaves the Gers fourth in the Premiership standings, despite a heavy summer recruitment drive which saw 11 players added to last season’s third-placed team – at a cost of almost £9 million.
