Photos have emerged of John Fleck in among the Rangers fans as the midfielder’s old side beat Sheffield Wednesday in a friendly on Sunday.

A lifelong Rangers fan, Fleck rose through the ranks at Ibrox and made 55 appearances before leaving Rangers for Coventry City in 2012, shortly after the Gers’ relegation to the fourth tier of Scottish football.

But with Fleck now on the books of Wednesday’s city rivals Sheffield United, who he helped to the League One title last season, the 25-year-old got a rare chance to watch his childhood heroes in the flesh when they visited Hillsborough at the weekend.

And he will not have been disappointed, as goals from Josh Windass – whose father Dean played for both Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United – and Kenny Miller gave Rangers a 2-0 win.

Fleck is due to return to the Owls’ home at the end of next month, as Carlos Carvalhal’s side host the Blades in the first Steel City Derby in more than five years.

The former Scotland Under-21 international is no stranger to such feisty encounters, however, having appeared in three Old Firm fixtures for Rangers.

Nevertheless, he will hope to fare better this time around, with his Derby record reading: won none; drawn two; lost one.
