Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers side will be looking to bounce back after being defeated by the Dons.

Former Rangers defender Hugh Burns believes that if Mark Warburton’s men play like they did against Aberdeen for the rest of the season, they will finish above the Dons in the Scottish Premiership this term, the Daily Record reports.
Hopes of the Gers challenging for the title this season appear to have already diminished following the gap that has developed between themselves and Celtic, but Warburton may now be targeting competing with Derek McInnes’ side as they are the ones who pushed the Hoops the closest in recent years.

And while it was Aberdeen who enjoyed a dramatic victory when the two teams met on Sunday, Burns – who made over 50 league appearances during his time with the Light Blues – is confident that he saw enough from the away side to suggest that they will bounce back from the loss.
“I honestly don’t think that Rangers are far away,” he said, as reported by the Record.
“Having witnessed the full 90 minutes at Pittodrie, I also think that Rangers will finish above Aberdeen at the end of the season if they play as they did against them on Sunday for the rest of the season.

“I can’t see the gap being bridged to Celtic. They have burst the bank with the boy Scott Sinclair.”
In fairness to the Gers, it was a highly controversial decision to award a stoppage-time free-kick that led to the winning goal, and if the referee had not made the call, it seems likely that the teams would have shared the points.

However, Warburton will know that a promising performance means nothing if the team do not begin to start backing them up with results, having failed to win any of their last four games in the top flight.
But with the side just three points adrift of Aberdeen – who moved up to second following the victory – they will be taking plenty of confidence from the way they have played in the last two games, and know that it may just take one victory to rediscover the confidence that led them to so much success last season.
