Porto have confirmed the signing of former Rangers defender Fabio Cardoso on a five-year deal, with the ex-Ibrox centre-back calling the move to the Dragons a “dream come true.”

Cardoso, who joined Rangers in 2017 under Pedro Caixinha and spent a year at Ibrox, has impressed since returning to his homeland shortly after Steven Gerrard’s arrival at Ibrox in 2018.

The Portuguese defender never really settled in Scotland before his contract was ripped up early to allow him to return to Portugal.

The 27-year-old is expected to cost Porto around £1.7million and could link up with a former Ibrox teammate there with rumours continuing to follow Alfredo Morelos.

Having come through the Academy at Porto’s biggest rivals, Benfica, Cardoso has experience of being with one of Portugal’s big clubs and will be hoping he can hit the ground running.

During his time at Ibrox, Cardoso only managed 18 appearances for the Light Blues, picking up a horrific facial injury in the League Cup semi-final clash with Motherwell at Hampden.

His three years at Santa Clara since leaving Rangers has proven to be a fantastic move for his career as he looks to challenge for the title with Porto and make a mark in Europe – his list appearance in European competition being Rangers’ shambolic defeat by Progres Niederkorn.
