The midfielder put in a good performance for Arsenal this week as Spurs lost to Liverpool.
Dean Ashton – England
Former West Ham striker Dean Ashton believes that Tottenham missed a player like Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain against Liverpool in midweek.
Spurs were knocked out of the EFL Cup at Anfield after losing 2-1 to Jurgen Klopp’s men. Meanwhile Arsenal won against Reading 2-0 and Oxlade-Chamberlain was the hero – scoring both goals.

His direct style of play was a big boost for Arsenal throughout the clash with their Championship rivals and it was the sort of display that Spurs seemed to lack throughout the game with Liverpool.
Ashton, speaking on talkSPORT this week (26/10/16), felt that this was the sort of display Spurs needed:
“They (Arsenal) made a lot of changes. (Alex) Oxlade-Chamberlain) was fantastic. I think that’s probably what Tottenham lacked. Lamela made a difference when he came on.

Tottenham certainly seemed to lack the dynamism needed to take on Liverpool in the week. It is perhaps fair to note that Moussa Sissoko might have been a likely starter for Spurs had he not picked up a suspension for his actions against Bournemouth at the weekend.

It was that sort of direct play that Spurs needed in this game as they struggled to truly threaten the Liverpool defence throughout the game.
Hopefully Sissoko can be the man for such a role in the future.
