Sunderland will have their work cut-out in the Championship next season, according to Alan Pardew.

Former Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew was a guest on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football programme last night, and highlighted the difficulty that the Black Cats will face in their quest to gain promotion back to the Premier League next season.
Sunderland have endured a woeful campaign this season under the stewardship of David Moyes, and are already relegated, with four games still remaining, after taking just 21 points from 34 Premier League games thus far.
It is quite clear that Moyes has not received the financial backing that he was promised, and he has essentially been trying to do his job at the Stadium of Light with one arm tied behind his back.
And Pardew highlighted how it will be far from easy for the Wearsiders to bounce straight back to the top flight, when speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football programme, even with the luxury of parachute payments:
Alan Pardew
“As we know, all the teams in the Championship are gunning to reach the gold mine which is the Premier League, so there are four or five big clubs all poised with good teams going into next season. David (Moyes) will have to sit down with the chairman and discuss what the budget is. Even though Sunderland will get the huge injection of parachute money, it doesn’t mean to say they’ll do it the right way.”
Another real problem for Moyes is that now the Black Cats will not be able to offer potential signings Premier League football, it will be even harder to attract players with genuine quality to the club.
There could be some tough times ahead for Sunderland, and if the board once again fail to back Moyes this summer, their task of achieving promotion to the Premier League will be extremely difficult indeed.
