Former Premier League goalkeeper David James has tipped Tottenham Hotspur as potential Premier League champions, with Kenyan international Victor Wanyama a key factor in his reasoning.

Spurs made their title credentials brutally clear before the international break with a comfortable 2-0 win over many people’s favourites for the title Manchester City.

Spurs of course came close to winning the title last season but faltered at the end of the campaign, eventually finishing third behind Leicester City and Arsenal.

James, who played for the likes of City, Portsmouth and Liverpool in his illustrious career, now believes Spurs have a player capable of taking them over the line in Wanyama.

Speaking on Kenyan radio station Capital FM today, he had this to say about Spurs’ title chances:

“You look at Spurs last season with a very young nucleus and a huge English core and you think yes, they are winning the League but in the late stages of the season, they end up melting because they lack experienced heads in the team.

“Now players like Wanyama with all their experience coming on, I think it will bring a lot of difference and Spurs can actually fight for it.”

Tottenham fans have certainly been impressed by the performances of Wanyama since his arrival from Southampton in the summer for what is now looking like a bargain fee.

He has added an extra dimension to their midfield operation and looks to have the nod over Eric Dier at present.

If Spurs can continue this current run of form than they are undoubtedly in the title fight. Wanyama might just be the missing link.
