Parkinson confirmed Bolton’s interest in Hobbs, who left Nottingham Forest at the end of last month, but played down talk of a move for ex-West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Boaz Myhill.
Former Nottingham Forest defender Jack Hobbs has made a positive early impression on Bolton Wanderers manager Phil Parkinson after arriving on trial at the Macron Stadium.
Released by Forest at the end of last month, Hobbs played half an hour of Bolton’s 2-1 friendly win at Halifax Town on Saturday and according to the Bolton News, the centre-back could feature in a behind-closed-doors game against Morecambe this week – although talk of a move for ex-West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Boaz Myhill has been played down.
Confirming his interest in the former Nottingham Forest man, Parkinson told the same newspaper: “I told Jack I’d like him to come up to Scotland for a week and he did, worked really hard in training to show us where he is at.
“He’s a good character. Even in that half an hour against Halifax you could see he was trying to organise and that’s a good sign.
“He’s one of a number of players we’re looking at.”
Hobbs, though, may not be the only trialist looking to earn a contract at Bolton this summer, with Parkinson adding: “A couple of others will come in for some training this week.
“In the past I’ve looked at players at close quarters and they’ve earned contracts, it’s what it’s all about at this stage of the game.”
According to the Bolton News, however, the Trotters boss has poured cold water on reports suggesting his side are in talks to sign Myhill, whose West Brom contract also expired in June.
