Brandon Marshall’s latest viral moment has little to do with football and everything to do with where people draw the line on discipline.

The former NFL wide receiver posted a clip that showed him making his son run at 2 AM as punishment for not listening, and the internet immediately split into two camps.

Some saw tough love. Others saw a private parenting moment that should never have been filmed.

Brandon Marshall parenting video sparks 2 AM punishment backlash

A Dov Kleiman post showed the clip and noted Marshall’s child was visibly crying during the punishment.

Marshall warned him: “If you don’t start running, we’re going to go three miles. You don’t listen, we run 2 in the morning.”

He also framed the punishment as work, saying: “You don’t wanna listen? We run, we work.”

Reports around the clip said Marshall drove alongside his son while the child ran in the early morning.

Fans split over Brandon Marshall discipline and filming decision

One fan objected mainly to the public exposure: “The only thing that I don’t agree with is him filming it.”

Another took a much harsher view: “Call me soft but this is clearly child abuse. What a f____ j___.”

Supporters saw something different, with one saying: “He understands he isn’t raising a boy he is raising a man🥳🥰.”

Another defended the harshness: “Doesn’t bother me. Harsh, true. But, his son won’t grow up s____ people and looting Wal-marts.”

A more measured reaction said: “Love this, BUT- lead by example. Marshall should be running with him.”

That last point captures why the video blew up. The argument is not only about running. It is about time, tone, fear, filming and whether discipline should become content.

Marshall now works across media, business and wellness through I Am Athlete, House of Athlete and mental health advocacy. This clip, though, put his parenting under a spotlight no podcast debate could fully control.
