Former Newcastle United winger Ruel Fox has told bwin.com that he thinks Dwight Gayle is somewhat similar to ex-Arsenal striker Ian Wright.
Fox, who joined the Magpies from Norwich City back in 1994, scored 12 goals in 58 appearances for the club before earning a big move to Tottenham Hotspur just over 18 months after his arrival.

The former winger ended his playing career with West Brom in 2002, but it’s clear that he still keeps an eye on Newcastle, who are looking to win promotion from the Championship this season.

A number of new signings have already made impacts, but one new arrival to really impress is striker Dwight Gayle, who joined from Crystal Palace back in July.
The 25-year-old has already become a key player for Newcastle, hitting four goals in four Championship games to immediately become Benitez’s go-to goalscorer in attack, despite the presence of players like Aleksandar Mitrovic and Daryl Murphy.
Now, ex-Newcastle ace Fox has told bwin.com that he thinks Gayle was exactly what Newcastle needed, as he’s a natural goalscorer who scores ‘typical poacher’s goals’.

Fox even compared Gayle’s playing style to that of former Arsenal striker Ian Wright, and the two certainly have similarities in their careers; both found success in non-league football before a spell with Crystal Palace, and whilst Wright went on to become a Premier League legend at Arsenal, Newcastle fans may just settle for Gayle firing the club to promotion.
“In my opinion, Dwight Gayle was exactly what Newcastle needed – a quality goalscorer,” said Fox. “Dwight’s very much in the Ian Wright mould, someone who doesn’t keep still and consistently works the keeper – his strike ratio is very good. The goals he’s scored for Newcastle have been typical poacher’s goals,” he added.
