Mick Quinn says he can’t wait for Newcastle to play Aston Villa.
Aston Villa fans reacts after Ross McCormack hit the post
Newcastle United and Aston Villa were both relegated from the Premier League last season, and have both found it tough going in the Championship early on.
Newcastle suffered their third defeat of the season at the weekend, while Villa have only won one game to date.
Newcastle fans look dejected
Villa played a part in Newcastle’s relegation, with a crucial 0-0 draw at the end of the campaign effectively sealing their fate.
Having been relegated previously by Villa in 2009 on the last day of the season, an emerging rivalry has struck up between the two clubs.
Mick Quinn – Newcastle United
Former Newcastle striker Mick Quinn is well aware of it, getting into a row with Villa fans on Twitter at the weekend.
Quinn, who played for the Toon between 1989 and 1992, hit out and branded Villa supporters ‘sad’, and said he can’t wait for Newcastle to beat them.
He does not have to wait too long, with Newcastle visiting Villa Park next weekend at 5.30pm in a fixture televised live on Sky Sports.
Quinn was not done there though, criticising attendances at Villa Park – although given results in recent years you can hardly blame the fans who do decide to vote with their feet and stay away.
Quinn better hope Newcastle can back up his comments on the pitch with a win.
