Former Newcastle United midfielder Lee Clark has suggested his ex-Premier League club to sign Al Ahly star and Mali international Aliou Dieng.
Speaking to Shorouk News, the Al-Merrikh manager has urged his former Premier League club to keep tabs on the 24-year-old midfielder, who has been a key player for the Egyptian giants since moving to the north Africa powerhouses in 2019.
An Egyptian Premier League champion and two-time CAF Champions League winner, Dieng has been a star for Al Ahly in recent years, and a move could now be on the cards for the midfielder after spending his entire career in Africa.
Like many top players to develop their game in Egypt, Europe appears to be the logical next step for Dieng, and according to Clark, who has managed in Egypt since 2021, Newcastle should be looking at the Mali dynamo.
Indeed, Newcastle’s PIF owners could well make a move for the midfielder, with Eddie Howe’s side likely to sign a player in the ilk of Dieng’s qualities in the summer, with that area of the squad one that needs improving.
Clark said when asked about Dieng: “I admire the way Aliou Dieng plays, he can play in Europe because he has special abilities. I recommend Newcastle to make a move for Dieng, he could be a great signing.”
Dieng could be a left-wing option for Newcastle for cheap

Egyptian Premier League products have enjoyed success in the Premier League from Mohamed Salah to Mohamed Elneny, and for Newcastle, Dieng could be a viable option if the club are looking to sign a midfielder for cheap in the summer.
Midfield is an area that needs improving for Newcastle, and Dieng, who has received the blessing of Clark, could now be an option for the northeast club in the transfer market.
