Former Newcastle left-back Didier Domi, has slammed the failed French recruitment policy at his former club, as quoted by the Chronicle.

Domi spent three years on Tyneside, and made 55 league appearances for the Magpies, before being sold back to his previous club Paris Saint-Germain.

Now a pundit for beIN Sports, the Frenchman had his say on Newcastle’s transfer policy, which they have now moved away from, as quoted by the Chronicle:

“Newcastle went down, so of course so they had to stop this connection with French players. First of all, because it just didn’t work. Secondly, Rafa Benitez is Spanish, and has other connections with people he worked with. It was an error. They had seven or eight Frenchmen on the pitch. But at some point, there were too many French players in the team. Imagine after going down he’d gone back to French players? It just wouldn’t happen.”

Benitez signed 12 players throughout the course of the summer transfer window, with half of the new faces being British and/or Irish.

The North East outfit have started their 2016/17 campaign in impressive style on the whole, and currently sit in fifth position in the Championship table, four points behind league leaders Norwich City.

The jury is still out on whether or not Benitez’ signings prove to be successful, but the proof will be in the pudding, and if Newcastle fail to achieve promotion to the Premier League, questions will certainly be asked once again regarding their transfer policy, irrelevant of the nationalities of the players brought in to St James Park.
