Can Leeds United catch Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion?
Former West Ham United and Rotherham United defender Scott Minto has been quoted as saying by The Huddersfield Daily Examiner that Leeds United will not finish in the top two of the Championship this season.
Leeds are fourth in the Championship table at the moment with 69 points from 38 matches.
The West Yorkshire outfit are eight points behind second-placed Brighton & Hove Albion and nine behind leaders Newcastle United.
With just eight more rounds of matches left in the Championship this season, it is going to be hard for Leeds to catch the top two.
Minto believes that it is too late for Garry Monk’s side to launch a challenge for the automatic promotion places.
“I said it would be between three teams: Newcastle, Brighton and Norwich,” The Huddersfield Daily Examiner quotes Minto as saying.
“But Norwich fell away and Huddersfield jumped into the gap but it’s still a three-horse race in my opinion. Leeds have left it too late.”
Newcastle have the best squad in the Championship, while Brighton have been superb this season.
At this stage of the season, it is hard to see the Magpies or the Seagulls dropping out of the top two.
While Leeds cannot control how Newcastle and Brighton fare in the final weeks of the campaign, the Whites should be doing all they can to pick up maximum points from their last eight league matches.
