Former Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has shared his delight at returning to RC Strasbourg, the club where he began his professional journey.

The Frenchman takes on a new role off the pitch, joining as the club’s loan manager, a move that reunites him with a team once represented by Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior.

Strasbourg announced Schneiderlin’s appointment this week, confirming his transition from playing to management.

The former France international will now oversee the club’s loan operations, working closely with young players across the squad and partner clubs to guide their development.

Morgan Schneiderlin expresses pride after Strasbourg return

The decision marks a new chapter for Schneiderlin, whose career has spanned top-flight leagues in France and England before moving into a mentorship position at the club that launched him.

Speaking to RC Strasbourg’s official website, Schneiderlin said: “Returning to Racing is a tremendous joy and a great source of pride. It’s the club that trained me, and it holds a special place in my heart.

“My goal is to be there for the players, to support them, to help them in their development and to maintain a strong connection with Racing,” he added.

For Schneiderlin, this isn’t just a professional opportunity, it’s a full-circle moment with the club where his career began.

The midfielder’s comments also reflect the growing trend of former professionals taking up developmental and structural roles within European clubs.

Strasbourg’s decision to bring him back also ties into the club’s emphasis on experience-driven mentorship, as they continue building stability under the broader ownership umbrella that includes Chelsea’s network.

From Premier League stage to new beginnings

Morgan Schneiderlin enjoyed a lengthy and respected career that spanned nearly two decades. After emerging through Strasbourg’s academy, he moved to Southampton in 2008, where he became one of the Premier League’s most consistent midfielders.

His performances at St Mary’s earned him a move to Manchester United in 2015, where he featured under Louis van Gaal.

Following his stint at Old Trafford, Schneiderlin played for Everton before finishing his career in France with Nice and abroad in Australia with Western Sydney Wanderers.

Known for his composure, work rate, and tactical discipline, his experience now transitions into nurturing the next generation of Strasbourg talent.

As Strasbourg continues strengthening its structure under the influence of multi-club ownership, Schneiderlin’s presence offers a mix of familiarity and leadership, a local connection with international insight.
