Nabil El Zhar played a major role in the finale to Levante v Real Madrid yesterday evening.
Nabil El Zhar was signed by Liverpool from AS Saint-Etienne in 2006, and the French-born Moroccan was expected to go on and become a permanent feature in the Liverpool side for years to come.
An old school winger with pace and trickery he certainly showed flashes of inspiration under the management of Rafa Benitez.
But despite the odd impressive performance for the club he suffered with injury problems and from increased competition so was allowed to join PAOK Salonika of Greece on loan for the season – which was effectively the final nail in his Anfield career.

After a year in Greece he was released, and went on to sign for Spanish side Levante in 2011.
For many a Liverpool fan, that is where the trail goes cold – mainly through a lack of interest in what he is up to these days.
Well yesterday he played a key role in what might prove to be one of La Liga’s best games of the season. El Zhar, who has been in good form for the Valencian club so far this campaign, scored what for looked like being the 85th minute winner against Real Madrid last night.
It gave the club a 2-1 lead heading into the final minutes of the game against Carlo Ancelotti’s men – and El Zhar was all set to be the hero.
That was, until this happened …
