Liverpool’s top scorer this season is a winger.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp
Three seasons ago Luis Suarez was scoring goals for fun for Liverpool and surpassed the 30 goal mark with ease.
What wouldn’t this Liverpool side give for a striker with an equally ruthless nature?
While defence has been a problem for the Reds, their lack of a goal poacher has hurt them too.
Sadio Mane, a winger, is their top scorer with 11 goals, followed by Roberto Firmino with nine.
Divock Origi is their top scoring striker with eight, of which only four have come in the Premier League.
This context saw former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison state his belief last night on Twitter that manager Jurgen Klopp should prioritise one of Ligue 1’s top stars next season.
He urged the Reds to consider Uruguayan international Edinson Cavani, or Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette.
PSG ace Cavani has 26 goals this season in Ligue 1 in 25 games, while Lacazette has 22 in 22 games.
Neither player would come cheap, and it would require a club record transfer fee upwards of £40 million potentially closer to 50.
Either player if they could replicate their form would be ideal for Liverpool, but it would be a surprise considering their recent history if the club decided to sanction such a blockbuster deal for a single player.
