Emiliano Insua looks set to be on his way to Olympiakos after a torrid time at Atletico Madrid.
When Liverpool snapped up Emiliano Insua it was deemed an excellent coup. The energetic left-back started strongly at Anfield, and lived up to his billing as one of South America’s brightest young talents.
But he failed to hold down a spot at Anfield, being loaned out to Galatasaray for a season before moving to Sporting Lisbon at the end of the 2010-11 season.
But with Sporting struggling for cash, they sold him on to Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid in January 2013 for a fee believed to be in the region of €10 million. Joining up with Diego Simeone, a fellow Argentine, this was supposed to be the start of something brilliant for Insua.
It hasn’t been.
In his 18 months at Atleti Insua has managed a mere 648 minutes of league football at the Vicente Calderon, equating to just nine La Liga appearances.
Now it seems he is set to get a chance at playing regular football once again. It is reported that Olympiakos are ready to spend some of their Kostas Manolas cash on the full-back. Reports claim that the move is on the brink of completion, with an announcement expected over the weekend.
No Liverpool fan will hold a particular grudge against Insua, so will hope he can come good if the Greek move does come to fruition, as he is no doubt a talented player.
