Former Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp was highly critical of Toffees striker Romelu Lukaku, when writing his regular column for the Daily Mail, highlighting the Belgian’s worrying habit of going missing in big games as something that will concern Ronald Koeman.

The Reds were by far the better side at Anfield on Saturday, and eventually ran out 3-1 winners – a result that all but ended Everton’s hopes of forcing their way into the top four.

The 23-year-old highly sought-after hitman failed to have a defining impact on the game, and didn’t even provide an outlet for his defence when they were under pressure.

And Redknapp, who made 311 appearances for Liverpool, explained how the Belgium international offered little to his team on Saturday, when writing his column for the Daily Mail:

“Where was Romelu Lukaku at Anfield? The Premier League’s top scorer did not get a sniff against Liverpool. This was not the first time the Belgian has failed to make an impact on a big game this season.”

It is hard to b critical of Lukaku this season. He has scored 21 goals in 29 Premier League appearances, along with providing six assists.

However, he has only scored against two teams inside the current top nine of the table – Tottenham and Manchester City.

And that will be an area where he really does have to improve, if he is to become truly world class.
