Ex-Liverpool midfielder Ryan Babel has hit out at former club Liverpool, claiming he was coached badly.

Former Liverpool midfielder Ryan Babel has claimed that no one from the club helped him when he joined the Reds from Ajax, when he was just 20-years-old, he has claimed in an interview with AS.

Now 29, the Netherlands international has recently joined La Liga outfit Deportivo La Coruna and has told Spanish newspaper AS that he was coached ‘badly’ and that the coaching staff at the time did not help him.

When asked about whether he peaked too early in his career? Babel replied: “I think I was badly coached, neither the coach nor the coaching staff advised me well. I was 20-years-old when I went to the Premier League.

“When you are 20, you need from other people, you need people to talk to you. But, when I went over there, nobody helped me. I was alone and that’s difficult for any young player. Not everyone is Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. Even Cristiano Ronaldo’s first years at Manchester United were quite difficult.”

The former Liverpool player also commented on his Anfield exit in 2011 when he joined Bundesliga side Hoffenheim, which ended his four-year spell on Merseyside and believes that whilst he had opportunities to stay in England, he felt it was better for his development to move abroad.

He told AS: “I had some options open to me at first, but playing in a big league doesn’t always mean that it will be good for your development. When I left Liverpool I could have stayed in England but that would have meant joining clubs that didn’t play football, just a long-ball game. Which is why I decided to go to Germany, to Hoffenheim a side who played good football.”

Babel has enjoyed a mixed career up to date, having been touted as one of the best young prospects in world football when he joined Liverpool in 2007, he has since played in five different countries since leaving the five-time Champions League winners.

The midfielder has had stints in Germany with Hoffenheim, before returning to Ajax in the Netherlands and helped clinch the Eredivisie title, Al-Ain in the United Arab Emirates, Turkey where he starred for Kasimpasa and now Spain for Deportivo.
