The Athletic journalist Greg O’Keeffe has said on BBC Radio Merseyside that Everton are close to making an announcement regarding Rafael Benitez.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that Everton will appoint former Liverpool boss Benitez as their new manager.
A report in The Athletic has claimed the announcement could be made by the end of the week.
O’Keeffe said on BBC Radio Merseyside: “I believe that they are edging very close to an announcement whereby they can confirm that he will become the next Everton manager.”
The unthinkable is about to happen
Benitez is a former Liverpool manager.
The Spaniard was in charge of the Reds from 2004 until 2010 and led them to Champions League and FA Cup success.
Liverpool and Everton are bitter Merseyside rivals.
Some Everton fans have already made it clear that they are strongly against the prospect of Benitez coming to Goodison Park.

However, it seems that the Everton hierarchy are going to appoint the former Real Madrid boss regardless.
It will be interesting to see how Everton fans react if indeed Benitez is appointed the manager.
The Spaniard is a very good and successful manager, although his playing style is caution-first and defensive.
The main problem is that Benitez is a former Liverpool manager.
