Harry Kewell bagged his first goal from open play for his latest side Melbourne Heart in the city derby v Victory
Harry Kewell was once the golden boy of the Premier League. When the fresh faced Australian burst onto the scene at Leeds United in the mid-90’s he was an immediate fan favourite – and played a massive role in Leeds’ Champions League days.
The PFA Young Player of the Year moved on to Liverpool in 2003 – turning down offers from AC Milan, Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona to become a Red.
He had difficult times at Anfield – with his injury record keeping him on the side-lines for large periods of time – but he had an impressive 2005-06 that will probably live on most fondly in his memories of Merseyside.
He has since gone on to play for Galatasaray in Turkey and Melbourne Victory in his Australian homeland after a torrid transfer saga.
He left Victory in 2013 due to personal reasons and spent a couple of months in Qatar with Al-Gharafa before signing for Melbourne Heart in June last year.
And after another injury struck start to a new career Kewell he has finally scored his first goal for the club in front of his own fans – and did so against his old club Melbourne Victory in the Melbourne Derby.
Heart thrashed their opponents with the former Liverpool man bagging the fourth goal in a 4-0 win – adding to strikes from Orlando Engelaar, Mate Dugandzic and David Williams in a resounding victory.
His goal was trademark Kewell – left-foot, edge of the box and made to look as easy as possible.
