Leeds United took on Cardiff City in the Championship yesterday and picked up an impressive win in the Welsh capital.

They won the game 2-0 thanks to a penalty from Chris Wood and a late curling effort from Pablo Hernandez.

Wood has consistently found himself under the watchful eye of critics this season, with some performances earning him stinging reviews.

But in spite of that criticism the New Zealand international has scored five goals in nine games this season and he had a very good game against Cardiff City – despite being isolated for much of the game.

One man who was impressed was former Leeds United head coach Neil Redfearn.

Speaking to TV Yorkshire after the game he had this to say about the Kiwi striker:

“I thought he led the line really well. He kept Leeds in the game when they needed him. He put defenders under pressure.

“The lad’s got a knack of getting in front of goal. It doesn’t faze him if he misses chances he keeps going.

“In the end he gets his penalty and takes it superbly well.”

Wood certainly has thick skin. Whilst he is often condemned by Leeds fans he never stops trying to put himself in the right place to score regularly and is still Leeds’ best focal point in attack.

If he could just become more ruthless with some of the chances that come his way, Wood could be an absolute star for Leeds United in the Championship.
