Former Leeds United striker Brian Deane has hit out at outgoing left-back Charlie Taylor for refusing to play for the club.

Taylor decided to strike with one game of the season remaining, missing from the matchday squad which drew with Wigan on the final day of the season.

Deane, who made more than 180 appearances for Leeds over two different spells, used Twitter to criticise the 23-year-old.

Head coach Garry Monk had told BBC Radio Leeds that Taylor had refused to play, and criticised the defender as being ‘terribly advised’ for his course of action.

The defender’s contract is running down and he is expected to leave when it expires at the end of June.

This has been inevitable, but Taylor still could have left on a high note if he simply played the final game and said his goodbyes.

It is clear he wants to play in the Premier League and he is likely to get his move this summer, but the way he has behaved has tarnished his image in the minds of ex-pro’s and fans.
