Former Leeds striker Mirco Antenucci reflects on his time at the club.
Mirco Antenucci left Leeds United 18 months ago and is now starring in Serie A for SPAL.
He has three goals and three assists in the top flight, after firing the unfancied side to promotion last season.
Speaking to Tuttosport reported by CalcioNews24, Antenucci reflected on being one of four former Leeds players to have returned to Italy since signing in 2014… and says he is close to two of them.
The one he did not say he was close to was controversial defender Giuseppe Bellusci, whose contract at Leeds was terminated this summer so he could find a new side.
Antenucci said: “There were other Italians in the squad: Silvestri, goalkeeper now at Verona, Bianchi, midfielder at Ascoli, and Bellusci, defender who is at Palermo. With the first two in particular, a friendship has developed that continues.”
Bellusci was a controversial figure at Leeds, and spent last season out on loan at Empoli, who were relegated to Serie B, before joining second tier side Palermo this summer.
The quartet were all signed by Leeds in 2014 in the first summer since Massimo Cellino took over.
Silvestri was the last to leave the club this summer, forced out by competition for places after Felix Wiedwald’s arrival.
He is currently the back-up goalkeeper at Serie A side Hellas Verona.
