Mick Mills suggested on BBC Radio Suffolk that he was impressed with the performance of Liam Bridcutt for Leeds United against Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon.

Ipswich and Leeds played out a 1-1 draw with each other at Portman Road in the Championship.

Freddie Sears put the home team in the lead in the ninth minute, and Stuart Dallas restored parity for the West Yorkshire outfit on 42 minutes.

Bridcutt did not start the match, but the 27-year-old defensive midfielder came on a substitute at half time.

Former Ipswich defender Mills was following the match, and he was impressed with the performance of the Scotland international.

“Bridcutt played very, very deep – he was right between the two centre halves at times, picking up the ball,” Mills told BBC Radio Suffolk.

“He will continue to dictate the flow of the game if you don’t send someone down to stop him, as he did for large chunks of the second half.

“Bridcutt came on at half time, so we only saw him grow into that role while the game was in motion – recognising that need for a change should have come from the players, not the manager.”

Over the course of the 90 minutes at Portman Road on Saturday afternoon, hosts Ipswich had 41% of the possession, took 10 shots of which three were on target, and earned nine corners, according to BBC Sport.

Visitors Leeds had 59% of the possession, took four shots of which one was on target, and earned one corner, according to BBC Sport.

The West Yorkshire outfit are fifth in the Championship table at the moment with 58 points from 33 matches.
