Kenny Miller has suggested that Rangers paid too much for Ianis Hagi, as quoted in The Scottish Sun.
Rangers recently signed Hagi on a permanent contract from Genk, with The Scottish Sun claiming that the Gers paid £3 million in transfer fees for the Romania international.
The 21-year-old, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a forward, initially moved to Rangers on loan from Belgian outfit Genk in the January transfer window.
Former Rangers striker Miller believes that the Ibrox club paid too much for Hagi, although another ex-Gers striker – Kris Boyd – thinks that the youngster is a good signing for Steven Gerrard’s side.
The Scottish Sun quotes Miller as saying about Hagi: “It’s a lot of money to spend on a player we’ve not seen too much of in his time at the club.
“But the manager and his staff have obviously seen enough of him on a daily basis, see how he goes about his work, to spend that money.”
Miller added: “But it is a lot of money to spend on a player that was virtually there for a few months. I don’t think he’d become a regular at any point, it’s not as if he came and started every game.
The Daily Record quotes Boyd as saying about Hagi: “He’s prepared to risk and lose the ball, which I think is a big thing in football nowadays. There’s too many people who are robotic, pass the ball sideways and try to look good.
“He’s a throwback in terms of driving forward and asking the defenders questions. When you’ve got someone like that who will thread balls through, strikers will thrive off it. “

Trust in Steven Gerrard
While it is true that Hagi was not exceptional during his loan spell at Rangers, Gerrard must be trusted regarding his judgement of the Romania international.
Back by his former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson – as quoted in The Scottish Sun – and by ex-Rangers director of football Mark Allen – as quoted in The Scottish Sun – to succeed next season, Gerrard will be determined to stop Celtic from winning the Scottish Premiership title for the 10th season in a row, and Hagi will play an important role in that quest.
